Since my childhood I have been fascinated by the living world, and the shapes that keep appearing: spirals, branching fractals, radial symmetry, space, energy, flow, tension, packing, diffusion, all of these forces quietly “choose” certain geometries again and again.
My vision as an artist is to bring this complexity of experience to the viewers attention. Seven years ago my sister sent me a mug with the famous Pablo Picasso quote, “Every child is an artist. The problem is how to remain an artist once we grow up.” This struck me to my core.
I have been on a journey ever since, not to recapture a “phantom” inner child, but to treat creativity as a skill to be nurtured by practice, technique, and trust in the experience of art.
I no longer paint, draw or sculpt with fear of judgement, societal pressures, or my own self consciousness. Instead I practice fostering curiosity- how does the paint move, feel, what does this piece of wood want to be, etc. I embrace “failure” as experimentation and cultivate a joyful, childlike approach to creativity.
I am so grateful to live in this magnificent landscape that daily inspires my spirit to continue my artistic journey.
