Chi E Shenam Westin: Painting on Copper- Making Paintings with Depth and Luminosity

September 19 @ 9:00 am - 11:00 am

First, Chi will demonstrate how to prep the copper for painting. Then he will go through the techniques that it takes to do a plein air painting on copper, including composition and layering of color. He will demonstrate certain techniques that are unique to super smooth surfaces that allow the copper to show through.

Chi E Shenam is an oil painter who works both Plein Air and studio painting. He studied art at Boise State university and with Master artists including Frank Covino, Albert Hendel and Fred Choate. Landscapes are his preferred subjects painting in parks and on public lands in and around Boise. He also travels across the intermountain west painting the vast landscapes and open spaces. Painting on copper, he has found, gives the painting a deep warmth and luminosity that is difficult to do on canvas. He paints with thin paint with many layers so there is a depth of color that also allows for the copper to shine through.
