Experience creating beautiful, unique landscapes in mixed media with artist Sue Tyler as your guide. Sue demonstrates ways to use acrylics and other water-based products in order to design an expressive, colorful landscape on wood blocks. Students first observe and explore basic forms of the landscape through drawing exercises. Students then prepare the wood surface and layer transparent fluid acrylic colors and other products to create a unique landscape. Sue encourages experimentation and careful thought to encourage a loose, abstract style. Whether painting “plein air” or in the studio, students can gain a new perspective.  Come and join the fun.

This creative approach aims to energize each student’s style, regardless of ability level. The amazing results are the bonus.

Day 2 is a half day that allows students to finish pieces and have an informal critique session. Students will finish at least 2 paintings during the entire session.

Sue Tyler draws inspiration from images of the West. An Idaho native, Sue has lived, painted and taught in the shadows of the Teton mountains for four decades. Her art seeks to share the spirit of the land, in its varied seasons, forms, colors and patterns. She continually seeks the magic of a place and how the experience of interaction with place becomes a personal statement. A respected and dedicated teacher-artist for over 25 years, Sue is known for her expressive watercolors, acrylics (plein air and studio ), and mixed media work. Subject matter is a starting point for exploration of elements of line, space, texture, color to make a greater statement about the subject, or experience of the encounter with the subject. In 2013 Sue left her teaching career to paint full time. As Sue continues to paint throughout the West, she has won several event competitions for her work, an artist residency in Alaska, and selections in national juried shows.
