2018 Scotty Mitchell Pastel Studio

Sat September 29, 2018 @ 10:00 am - 1:00 pm

In Boulder – turn off right off HWY 12 at Circle Cliffs Motel and follow drive to end.  Scotty’s studio is on the right past the house.

Art festival Southern Utah

Stop by Scotty’s studio to see where the magic happens after her painting excursions out and about in the canyons.

Scotty Mitchell moved to Boulder,Utah in 1997, captivated by the immense space and incredible variety of color and form, the earth showing off its bones.  Mitchell went to art school in Italy and graduated from the Academy of Fine arts in Rome in 1971. In 1975 she went on a painting trip to Crete, Greece and stayed for 20 years.   Falling in love with Utah on a southwest trip in the early nineties led Mitchell to move to Boulder in 1997.  She is an onsite painter, taking her drawing board, pastels and easel out into nature.  Her work unites the abstraction of form, light, and rhythm, with the deep particularity of her specific.  She finds painting on site is the best way to convey the vitality and spirit of her subject.  Scotty loves to hike to remote spots to paint.  On cold or windy days she paints from a large picture window in her vintage RV, Aphrodite. Her work is a joyous celebration of the land.  See more of Scotty’s work here.
