2019 Rae Ellen Lee: Printmaking Without a Press for Mixed Media Plein Air

September 25, 2019 @ 1:00 pm - 2:30 pm

In this demo, Rae Ellen will paint landscape scenes directly on a Gelli (gelatin) plate and on plexiglass then transfer the images to papers. The resulting monoprints might be fresh “starts” or possibly finished works. She will also generate papers containing layers of colors, marks, and patterns that can be torn and collaged onto mixed media plein air pieces. The monoprints are fun to experiment with. Because the “products” aren’t easily controlled, using one can help loosen up your work and take it in new, contemporary directions.

A former resident of Escalante, Rae Ellen Lee now lives near Bellingham, WA. She has always sketched while hiking, but describes herself as a studio artist who enjoys plein air events. Her love affair with the outdoors started on a stump ranch in Northern Idaho, and continued later, as a Forest Service landscape architect in Idaho and Montana. The author of memoirs, novels and humor, Rae Ellen’s focus is now on making art. Her mixed media pieces can be found in private collections and at Allied Arts in Bellingham. At the 2015 Escalante Canyons Art Festival she won a merit award with a bold piece incorporating narrative collage.  See more of Rae Ellen’s work here.
