Bruce Hucko: Personalizing Place: Growing from an Illustrator of Place to Expressing Home

Wed September 27, 2023 @ 7:00 pm - 7:45 pm

$46

This 2-part, 45-minute presentation will be illustrated with many images of Hucko’s photographic career, from “wannabe NPS photographer” to published photographer about places.  The Canyons of the Escalante figure highly in his metamorphosis.  Part 1 will conclude with Hucko talking about the “change in vision” that comes when you see all images you make as being reflective of self.

Part 2 will highlight his work with children in art.  He’ll briefly outline his start as Art Coach on the Utah Strip of the Navajo Reservation, then as Art Coach for the 8-Northern Pueblo Day Schools of northern New Mexico and will conclude with his work as Art Coach at HMK Elementary School in Moab and a special project called “Look Where We Live,” plein-air paintings made by 3rd and 4th grade students.

Bruce is an independent photographer and art educator who resides in Moab.  His personal photographic work has taken him all over the west, though he views the Colorado Plateau as home.  His work as Art Coach! for children has taken him to other parts of the world.  He’s presented in Russia, at the New Zealand Arts Education Conference, and in Nassau where he presented “The Hand in Art” to the American Association of Hand Surgeons conference.

Hucko’s most current personal photographic work is most created as BW prints.  “I’m attracted to abstract elements of the external landscape, for they better coincide with elements of my internal landscape,” he states, “Emotion and other thoughts, so BW is the logical choice.”
