Stephen Van Handel: Nocturnes by Moonlight, Headlight or Imagined Light
September 23 @ 9:00 pm - 10:30 pm
Join Stephen Van Handel for a nighttime painting adventure along the shores of Wide Hollow Reservoir.
When Stephen retired from his career three years ago as an art director and designer in advertising, he thought he would return to music. Composition, performing and recording on his personal music label was like living in a parallel universe. He worked in big Los Angeles agencies during the day and recorded music into the wee hours of night. He produced and recorded three CDs of his own music and won a prestigious album cover design award in the process. Music was his way of staying absolutely passionate.
A year after retirement he picked up the brush again and fell in love with “a meditation”. As he says, I hadn’t painted since art school and the rediscovery of fine art – through canvas & oil paint – brings me the joy of following my bliss and staying on this new found ‘painter’s path’. Out in the natural world, where I am most comfortable as an outdoorsman, is when I feel the sublime elation that my life is as finely tuned as possible in this constant meditation.
Stephen’s first entry into a plein air competition was with ECAF last year, where he won Best of Show – Oil/Acrylic.
