The Plein Air Painting Competition allows artists six full days to paint. Canvas stamping occurs at the Escalante Community Center and begins Friday, September 21. Final painting entries must be submitted on Wednesday, September 26 between 11 AM and 6 PM at the Escalante Community Center. New this year, the Nocturne Competition allows artists to paint throughout the week at night and enter one artwork for judging. Any media may be used. Other general competition guidelines apply.
**This event open to registered artists, festival committee, volunteers, and supporters, and their family members. A welcome party hosted by one of the festival’s original founding funders, Steve Roberts, is held to welcome artists to town.
$875 in prizes Stamp-in: 7 AM to NOON / Submission: 2 PM to 5 PM "Celebrate Scenic Byway 12" is the theme for the 2018 Paint-Out. Artists will paint along Scenic Byway 12. Proceeds will be donated to the Scenic Byway 12 Foundation to support their programming and initiatives.

Participating artists, festival committee members, festival sponsors, and local art patrons mix and mingle at this festival favorite which is supported by businesses and members of the local community who donate food and beverages for everyone to enjoy.
9 to 10 AM, Exhibit Hall If you've always wondered how judges of an art competition make decisions on who wins, this is an event you want to be sure to attend. Join this year's plein air competition judges to learn how they evaluate the work submitted and ultimately make decisions on who receives awards. The Festival closes with a reception and award ceremony open to all. Refreshments are served and a cash wine bar is available. The silent art auction closes and winning bidders rejoice.
