The Grand Staircase-Escalante National Monument Artist in Residence – Plein Air Program is a partnership effort of Grand Staircase-Escalante National Monument (GSENM), Escalante Canyons Art Festival, Glen Canyon Natural History Association and Grand Staircase-Escalante Partners is to promote awareness through the arts of the exceptional natural and cultural treasures within the Monument. The program aspires to share the scenic beauty and unique stories of National Conservation Lands with the public through artistic expression.  The residency provides artistic and educational opportunities to promote a deeper understanding of the natural, cultural and historic resources on GSENM. It provides an opportunity for learning and dialogue about the value of the National Conservation Lands and their connection to the local community. It also allows uninterrupted time in a stimulating and rugged environment for an artist to pursue their work and share it with the public.

GSENM Artist-in-Residence – Plein Air Applications closed April 2018 but application materials are linked below for reference. If you are a plein air artist who seeks the opportunity to capture and celebrate Grand Staircase-Escalante National Monument’s diverse and stunning landscapes for the month of September and wish to showcase your work at the Escalante Canyons Art Festival, please consider applying in 2019.
